The movie was originally premiered at Cannes, France in May 2023 and won an award at Cannes for Best Director and an Oscar nomination for Best International Film. Set in 1885 France, the movie is about an acclaimed female chef Eugenie who works for a world famous gourmet restaurant owner by Dodin for 20 years. Eugenie is considered the best chef in France. She attracts diners from all over the world but does not socialize with them saying she communicates through her cooking.
The two have a passionate romantic affair but Eugenie does not want to marry Dodin in-order to maintain her independence. To win her heart, Dodin decides to cook a spectacular meal for his beloved for the first time.
The film captures the core of simple beauty and elegance through food. The chemistry between Binoche and Magimel is electric. The movie is also praised for its sensual sequences on gourmet food preparation.
