Ridley Scott has directed a British epic historical movie about the French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte. Apple produced the movie in England with British and French actors. The film is expected to be released by Sony Pictures for Thanksgiving in November, 2023.
The story is a personal look at Napoleon, played by Joqauin Phoenix, with his ruthless rise to power, several battles, and his addictive and volatile marriage to Josephine, played by Vanessa Kirby. Other cast members include Tahor Rahim, Ben Miles, Matthew Needham, Ludivine Saghier, Paul Rhys, and others.
Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821) was a Corsican military officer who rose to prominence during the French Revolution. Through a coup d’etat he became the leader of the French Republic from 1799 to 1804. He declared himself Emperor of France from 1804 to 1815. He conquerd most of Continental Europe, ruling France, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and parts of Austria, Prussia, Poland, and Russia. He was defeated at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815.
Napoleon was married to Josephine (1763-1814) whom he made Empress and later had the marriage annulled.
